FAQs

1. What is a gender scan, and when can it be done?

A gender scan is an ultrasound used to determine the sex of the baby. In the UK, this can typically be done from 15 weeks of pregnancy onwards, when the baby's genitals are usually visible. It's a popular option for parents who wish to know the baby's sex before birth.

2. Is a gender scan 100% accurate?

While gender scans are usually very accurate, they are not guaranteed to be 100%. The accuracy depends on factors such as the baby's position during the scan, the stage of pregnancy, and the quality of the ultrasound image.

3. Is finding out the baby's gender part of the NHS scan?

In the UK, the NHS offers an anomaly scan around 20 weeks, which may reveal the baby's sex if requested. However, the main purpose of this scan is to check the baby's development and health, so determining the gender is not the primary focus. For a gender-specific scan, private clinics are an option.
